The AeroAndina MXP-150 Kimbaya was chosen as a donor platform for the sole prototype constructed. Built to comply with the FAA's Light/Sport aircraft standards, the plane was intended to compete with other light, recreational aircraft including the aforementioned Skycatcher.[2] Production was halted in 2010 after AMD's rebranding to Eastman Aviation, which then promptly went defunct, and AMD aircraft's assets, along with the Patriot, were sold to Zenair, the manufacturer of Zenith kit Aircraft, who promoted it as the Zenair MXP Patriot, before production was finally ended for good after an internal restructuring to focus on Zenair's own in-house model line.
