Muhammad Lutfar Rahman (2 February 1940 – 3 March 2024)[2] was a Bangladeshi scholar, Islamic speaker, researcher and central president of Bangladesh Majlisul Mufassirin.[3] He died on 3 March 2024 at Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka. He used to make Muslims aware of various contemporary issues in waz mahfils in Bangladesh and different countries of the world.[4]

Early life
editMuhammad Lutfar Rahman was born on 2 February 1940, in Badarpur village of Karpara union of Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur District.[2] Lutfar Rahman's father Maulana Abdus Samad was a scholar and philanthropist by profession and his mother Marhuma Begum Maksuda Khatun was a housewife.[5] He was the second among siblings.[5] He has two sons and five daughters.[5]
Education life
editLutfar Rahman's father Abdus Samad was a very old scholar. He started islamic education at the hands of his father. He also passed Dakhil from Kalaiya Rabbania Fazil Madrasah in 1961, Alim from Raipur Aliya Madrasah in 1963, Fazil in 1965 and Kamil in 1967 with merit.[4]
Along with islamic education, he completed his graduation from Nawab Faizunnesa Government College and post-graduation from Dhaka University. He is known as a bright face in all the exams of student life and got first class and scholarship.[4]
He is proficient in many languages including Bengali, English, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Hindi and Sanskrit languages.[4]
Career
editLutfar Rahman served as Principal of Rajkhali Aliya Madrasah with great reputation during his career.[6] He started the religious discussion by assuming the duties of the imam of the Central Jame Masjid of Imamganj (Nagerhat). Always devoted himself to the progress of social development as well as career. On his own initiative, he established numerous mosques, madrasahs, orphanages, islamic libraries in the country and abroad. Lutfar Rahman is widely known at home and abroad as a renowned speaker.[4]
He has served as the country chairman of various international organizations across the country. To spread the call of Islam to the world, this mufassir of the Qur'an has traveled to many countries in the East and West including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Korea and Japan. Many non-Muslims accepted Islam after listening to his sermons. Besides preaching the Quran, he has created a stir abroad by writing many rare books.[4]
Political life
editHe has worked with Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir since his student days. After that, he became the 'rukon' of the larger organization Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and gave the invitation to religion in Iqamah for a lifetime. And in 1991 and 1996, he participated in the election as a candidate of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the Lakshmipur-1 (Ramganj) constituency in the National Assembly elections and signed his qualification as the closest competitor.[4]
Student politics
editDuring his student life, while studying at Fazil in Raipur Alia Madrasah, he was elected as GS post with the inspiration of his teacher Nurur Rahman. Later Kamille was elected VP while studying. Besides, he was elected as the president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir of the same institution. A few days later, Bangladesh Jamiat Talabaye became the regional president of Arabia.[4]

Death
editLutfar Rahman died on 3 March 2024 at Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka.[3]
Before his death, he underwent a brain operation on the night of 16 February. He has not regained consciousness since then. He suffered a brain stroke at his home in Ramganj Upazila of Lakshmipur at 10:15 am on 14 February. The family immediately took him to Lakshmipur Modern Hospital. The doctor on duty said that he suffered a brain stroke. Later from there he was brought to Dhaka for better treatment.[16]
Various political parties and social organizations of the country have mourned his death.[1]
