Category talk:American LGBTQ rights activists

Can we please edit some of the celebrities out of this list? Publicly stating that one supports lgbt rights does not make one an activist. Can we please reserve this category for people who are either primarily known as activists or persons who have SIGNIFIGANTLY contributed to lgbt rights? For example, Cher or Judith Light could be kept on (they have both been actively involved in the lgbt movement), while Tyra Banks (who supports gay rights, but is not involved in activism) would be taken off. This is a list of activists, not pro-gay celebrities. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.13.141.56 (talk) 21:09, 16 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you know best you should be bold! and remove them yourself. • Anakin (talk) 07:18, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rename LGBT rights supporters?

edit

Observing the contents of the category, it seems a good portion of the entries in here are supporters, not activists. Now, we could deplete the category greatly by removing non-activists, or we could rename the article and include a wider array of supporters. RAP (talk) 0:42 16 December 2012 (UTC)

The proper venue for renaming the category is CFD. I would oppose to a rename though, and your rationale for inclusion, as being a supporter of something is non-defining. What is next? Category:Supporters of Islam? Category:Supporters of A.C. Milan? It is even covered specifically at WP:OC#OPINION. Nymf hideliho! 10:19, 16 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

So, RAP, judging from your removal of the category in various articles, it seems you either agree with me, or is just simply being pointy. Would you do me the courtesy of replying? Nymf hideliho! 10:23, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nah, i'm good. RAP (talk) 14:25 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Figures. Keep it up with edit summaries such as this and this (referencing me), and I will bring it to ANI. Nymf hideliho! 21:05, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Figures. People are always quick to report someone about something here. RAP (talk) 16:00 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Are you just randomly blanking categories now? That person is by all means an LGBT rights activist. It is comprehensively outlined in the article. Nymf hideliho! 10:14, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
My apologies. I thought the article said she was a supporter. RAP (talk) 3:43 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Round again

edit

I know this has been brought up before, but the number of entries in this category make it really unnavigable and most of them have only a tangential connection to LGBT rights. I'm poking around to remove some, but help would be appreciated. I don't think being an actor who makes one PSA or who states an opinion about LGBT rights makes one the sort of activist that people who use the category are looking for. –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 18:36, 29 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

There are WAAAAY too many celebrities on this list. Sarah Silverman? Ben Affleck? Pat Heaton? Katy Perry? What are ANY of these people doing on the list? Also, please remember being a gay icon doth not an activist make, I sincerely doubt when the history books are written, Britney Spears is going to be listed alongside Barbara Gittings and Harvey Milk. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.81.75.121 (talk) 20:55, 21 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Someone to add

Angel Haze: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_Haze

They're openly supportive of LGBT+ rights, and they're pan + agender (pronouns: they/them). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.131.122.39 (talk) 04:07, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

A lot of people don't belong here.

edit

A lot of the people in this category are supportive of LGBT rights, but are not at all activists. JDDJS (talk to mesee what I've done) 04:15, 30 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Caitlyn Jenner Should Be Removed

edit

She has *specifically* stated that she is NOT a transgender activist.
