Overpopulation
editThis category presently appears to be overpopulated with a random and uncomprehensive assortment of rivers, mountains, lakes, cities, towns, unincorporated communities, etc., all of which have their own categories, most of which are subcategories of this category. Further, most of these appear to be cross-listed in both this category and their respective subcategories. Does anybody have a justification for this state of affairs? - I've added the "in need of attention" tag. I think nearly all of the articles in this category should be removed from it, per guidelines in WP:CG; most of them are already included in a more-specific subcategory of this category. Malepheasant 02:01, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
I Agree
editMalepheasant, I concur, but under the Geography of West Virginia category, I noticed that several subcategories were absent including: Census-designated places in West Virginia, Cities in West Virginia, West Virginia counties, Towns in West Virginia, Unincorporated communities in West Virginia, and Villages in West Virginia. I feel these do fall under the guidelines as subcategories under the category of Geography of West Virginia. --Jhohenzollern 20:35, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- I've now added each of these as subcategories to this category, with a note in the edit history directing concerns to this talk page. I think it's fair to include these in both this category and the broader Category:West Virginia (where they've been) because they represent both geographic locations and political/governmental entities. (Note that with the number of articles in this category spilling over to a second page, some of the subcategories get shifted to the second page as well -- another reason to pare this thing down) Malepheasant 03:28, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- I've been deleting the Geography of West Virginia category feature from any article where it does not belong. If anyone else could join me in this endeavor, we can have this problem taken care of promptly. Thanks. --Caponer 02:28, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
Mission Accomplished
editI was able to remove must of the articles (mostly unincorporated communities) from this category. The remaining articles either didn't have another geography category or are major enough to be listed under this designation. --Caponer 03:33, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks kindly! I've taken away the "in need of attention" tag. Malepheasant 04:31, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
