edit- I propose using "People who identify as ex-gay" or something similar. First, "ex-gay" is a loaded term, and second, in most cases all we have to go by is whether the person identifies as ex-gay (e.g., is Paulk "actually" ex-gay? Who knows.) Fireplace 17:33, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. According to the American Psychological Association and American Psychiatric Association just to name two institutions that state sexual orientation is immutable. Therefore, the name "ex-gay" is scientifically inappropriate and may violate NPOV. Individuals may identity as "ex-gay"; therefore, changing the name to reflect this seems to be the appropriate course of action. -- Psy guy Talk 23:50, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Immutable? Where does the American Psychiatric Association state it is immutable? Even the American Psychological Association only states it it is not a conscious choice that can be voluntarily changed, which is different than saying it is immutable. Both sponsored a document that stated that "Sexual orientation develops across a person's lifetime".[1] Most just say there is no scientific evidence one way or another. To say it is immutable is to push one POV.
- Either way, you don't need to change your sexual orientation to qualify as an ex-gay. Simply leaving a gay lifestyle is sufficient. Several married ex-gays still say they have homosexual feelings. Right now the definition of ex-gays says it just a change of identity, though it is marked as dubious.Joshuajohanson 16:10, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- I am not asking anyone to believe that sexual orientation is stable, I am only suggesting that there are points of view that would disagree with the name of this category. "People who identify as ex-gay" seems to be a much more PC and NPOV name. -- Psy guy Talk 12:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

What does PCness have to do with anything? PC viewpoints are not NPOV. The current name is adequate. You could however briefly add to the page what Ex-'Gay' means seeing as it does appear to have several possible meanings.YourPTR! 04:30, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think that it should be renamed "Ex-gay people". --Fladoodle (talk) 06:25, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
Proposal for deletion
editI propose deletion of this category. It's really just unnecessary. There are only nine pages in this category after I was forced to remove 3 names of people who have never once stated that they are so called "ex gays". It would be more agreeable to move these pages to the category "Ex-gay movement" which already exists. If it was up to me though these idiots wouldn't even have Wikipedia pages... if I wrote an article about somebody who became notable after claiming they had "cured" their left-handedness everyone would think I'm insane.. I don't really see a difference with sexual orientation... most of these 9 individuals are NOT notable and shouldn't have articles. FULL STOP. Cheers, --Jkaharper (talk) 23:08, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
