The name .alt is reserved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a top-level domain name that may not be installed as a top-level domain in the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet. It is a special-use domain similar to .arpa, intended for applications where the DNS protocol is not used.[1]

editThere are currently no established protocols that make use of this TLD. Drafts of the GNU Name System are using .alt as of 2023.[2]
