Asomiya Club, Tezpur

Asomiya Club, situated at city of eternal love Tezpur, is a club established on 15th April, 1915 to promote and initiate various cultural and artistic activities and to enable the citizens of Tezpur to pass their leisure time in a constructive way as well as to create social, political and education awareness. The club was established by the prominent personalities like Pandit Jaydev Sharma, Haribilash Agarwala, Dandinath Kalita, Moulavi Jahirul Haque, Moulavi Atowar Rehman, Anandra Chandra Agarwala and others under the leadership of the doyen of Assamese literature Padmanath Gohain Boruah. Since establishment the club has completed glorious 108 years despite many odds and adversities and has been playing its significant role in preserving the cultural and literary heritage of Tezpur. Currently, various literary gatherings, seminars, literary competitions, workshops for poetry recitation among children and career guidance programmes for students etc. regularly held at the club are serving its purpose and contributing to the literary and other development of the society. Apart from cultural and educational projects, the club has also seen vigorous activities in sports and has often been in spotlight. Since 1985, sportspersons affiliated to this club have earned many state as well as national and international level distinctions in various sport events. The founding of the Cine Society on 21st February 2014, named Tezpur Chalachitra Mancha was one of the significant initiative of the club. Besides, the club also organized a film festival in December, 2014. Films screened in this festival were in Assamese, Mising, Kokborok, Khasi, Manipuri, Kannada, Sherdukpen languages. Recently the club has organized a 5 day Poetry Recitation Workshop from 3rd July to 7th July, 2023 like every year. Thus, Asomiya Club, Tezpur is standing with its glory by contributing incomparable contributions to the growth of the Tezpur city in various fields and aspects.
