Brian Henry Pinkus, born March 18th, 1992 is an American actor, fight choreographer, stuntman, director and film producer. He is best known for action and martial arts cinema often infused with comedic elements and daring stunts which he performs himself.[1] Over the span of 10 years he has acted in more than 50 films ranging through all the genres the film industry has to offer. Some of his most famous works include The Radicalisation of Jeff Boyd, Triad Power, Blue Alliance and The Safe.
Next to Pinkus' career in the film industry, he also coaches Basketball since 2012 after his graduation from International School of Berne and gives martial arts lessons for actors who need to fight or perform stunts in a movie or in theatre. He possesses the 5th Dan in Karate and the 4th black sash in Kung Fu with years of experience in Muay Thai.
Early Life
editPinkus was born on March 18th 1992 in Boynton Beach, Florida to Bart and Liliane Pinkus. He started martial arts at a young age, including karate, kung fu and muay thai. When he moved to Switzerland with his parents, he fell in love with acting and picked it up in school and joining the English theatre group in Bern. He went to the International School of Berne[2] from 2007 to 2012 majoring in Physics and Theatre Arts knowing he would once pursue a career in acting.
Film Career
edit2004 - 2012
editBrian Pinkus began his acting career in 2004 when he joined various theatre productions and quickly acquired leading roles. Some of the roles included the lead in Peter Pan, Westside Story, Grease and Talking Heads. Studying theatre arts at the International School of Berne Pinkus had leading roles in famous theatre productions such as Antigone, Romeo and Juliet and The 39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre in London.
2012 - 2014
editAfter acting on stage for many years he attempted to join the film industry. He got various jobs performing stunts in movies and series gaining him recognition as a martial artist and actor. Then finally in 2013 he got his first supporting role catapulting him into the film industry. He got some smaller roles until he decided to create his own film in 2014 where he can showcase all of his skills including acting, fighting and performing stunts. Independent cinema wasn't a thing yet in Switzerland back then making this movie the first independent English movie produced there.
2014 - Present
editDue to him seeing how the business runs in Switzerland, he decided to create his own production company called Light Flash Productions[3] specialising in action, comedy and martial arts cinema, a combination that wasn't seen in Switzerland at that time. He brought real martial arts to movie during that time, something totally new to the Swiss film industry. In 2015 he met fellow actor and film producer Uwe Schwarzwaelder. He gave Pinkus a big role in his thriller The Radicalisation of Jeff Boyd and asked if he would like to co-direct it making it Brian Pinkus' first film he officially directed and the first production Light Flash Productions was involved in. This also was the movie he won multiple awards for in front and behind the camera. This spiked his career, getting various acting jobs and directing jobs, including companies hiring Light Flash Productions not only for film, but also for music videos and commercials. Throughout Pinkus' film career he's been involved in over 260 productions in front and behind the camera.
Other Work
editBrian Pinkus comes from a background in basketball, playing for the International School of Berne which his father, Bart Pinkus coaches until this day. After Pinkus' graduation in 2012, he joined his dad in coaching the same team he played on. Together they coached many teams to victory with Bart Pinkus' experience in coaching and Brian Pinkus' experience in playing for the team, knowing what was awaiting the players.
Pinkus practiced many martial arts from a very young age, including karate, kung fu, and muay thai competing with the best worldwide on a high level. He currently owns the 5th Dan in karate and 4th black sash in kung fu. Once he joined the film industry in 2012 he stopped actively practicing each martial art as an individual and combined them to make one martial art out of them. This martial art was perfect for realism in film and showcases cool moves at the same time. It can be used both for film and in real life making it perfect for all situations. He gave martial arts lessons for various people from 2008 until 2018. From 2012 onwards he gave lessons in his own martial art showing great success and interest in this style of self defence.
