Refereeing career

[edit]

López began his refereeing career in the domestic youth and lower divisions in Guatemala before advancing to the top-flight Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala in 2014.[1]

In 2017, López was appointed to the FIFA International Referees List. Under CONCACAF, he has officiated matches across major competitions including the CONCACAF Gold Cup, CONCACAF Champions Cup, CONCACAF Central American Cup, Leagues Cup, and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.[2]

On the global level, López was selected by FIFA to officiate at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina. Domestically, he has refereed numerous play-off and final matches in Guatemala's Liga Nacional, including fixtures featuring CSD Comunicaciones and CSD Municipal.

Outside refereeing

[edit]

López comes from a prominent refereeing family in Guatemala. His father, Miguel López, was a referee and instructor, and his older brothers, Walter López Castellanos and Gerson López, are also international football officials. Outside of officiating, Bryan works as a physical education instructor and participates in grassroots youth sports programs.[citation needed]
