Cat Goes Fishing is a 2015 casual, cozy game where the player is a cat that casts a line and catches fish to sell.[1]
Gameplay
editIn the beginning of the game, the cat sits in a field can can only cast its fishing rod a short distance. Players patiently wait for fish to bite in the idle game.[2] Players need to hold down the mouse button to determine the casting power, and then they will guide the hook with the mouse as it sinks lower. Once a fish is hooked, the cat reels it in.[3] As the cat catches fish and sells its stock, coins are accumulated to buy rod upgrades.[2] Some of these upgrades pertain to casting further, while others focus on powered lures.[4] Different fish types are unlocked and range in size. While the cat starts off sitting in a field, a boat upgrade can be purchased to bring the cat to deeper waters. More species are found deeper in the sea, and some appear based on whether the cat is fishing during the day or during the night. Fish that are harder to catch may have specific tendencies, and players will need to learn how to act in order to get the fish to bite the hook.[3] Certain fish are worth more money, and the player will learn to successfully dodge the less valuable fish and aim for the ones that will bring in a higher profit.[4] Another obstacle includes seagulls that may attempt to interfere while fishing.[5] Ways to dodge include mastering how to use the fishing line, and power-ups such as bombs can be purchased to chase away any premature biters.[4] There are purely physical upgrades that provide no improvements to gameplay, but provide a new look to the players' cat, such as a cute hat.[6]
While the game is casual and is not intended to put stress on the player, missions are given to the player. These missions often instruct the cat to catch a specific amount of a certain species.[3]
Development
