Clara Franz-Arau |
---|
Clara Franz-Arau (born 5 May 2003) is a singer-songwriter known for her musical versatility, performing across genres and languages. Her ability to compose and sing in both English and Spanish enables her to engage with a diverse and multicultural audience.[1]
Biography
editClara was born and raised in Los Angeles by Mexican immigrant parents. Her passion for singing, performing, and being on stage blossomed through numerous musical theater productions during her childhood. She later attended the magnet school of music at Alexander Hamilton High School, where she pursued studies in choir, art, and musical theater.[2]
Driven by her passion for music, Clara has composed across various genres and was excited to share her diverse styles. Her debut song, "Attraction[3]," falls under alternative, followed by two bossanova tracks, "Pretty Baby"[4] and "Me Faltas Tú."[5] She then released her debut R&B EP, All For You, created with Grammy-nominated producer Greg Manning and featuring esteemed drummer John Paris from Earth, Wind & Fire. The EP includes "Come Around Again,"[6] "All For You,"[7] and "Lost in Memory."[8] Clara has most recently released her first indie/folk song, "I'll Be Here."[9]
Career
editClara's career began when she enrolled in music composition, vocal technique, and performance classes. Her teachers provided guidance and recommendations on how to start her journey in the music industry. Her first solo performance was at a music recital at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. She was then invited to sing jazz at the Farmers Market in South Pasadena, where she gained experience performing for audiences and began to build a community that wanted to hear more.
She was then recommended to perform at the North Hollywood café Republic of Pie, where she met the booker for The Hotel Café, a venue she had been hoping to perform at. With the jazz band she had been invited to perform with in Pasadena, Clara knew she had found the right group for her Hotel Café debut. Despite the venue's challenging entry, she was fortunate to be accepted and offered a date to perform on the second stage, marking her first show on February 11, 2023. Clara organized the show, coordinating with the venue, handling tickets, and managing the musicians, and was incredibly excited about the opportunity. Her show was marked as SOLD OUT a week before the event, making her the first new artist to achieve a sold-out performance on the second stage at The Hotel Café. She was then invited back to the main stage, where she performed again with "Clara and Her Jazz Quartet" and continued to appear three more times, including for her end-of-year Christmas show.
After this exciting start, she was invited by Casa Mexico to perform at San Diego's famous Comic-Con, where she showcased both classic songs and her own compositions. Additionally, she performed as a guest at The Baked Potato, thanks to an invitation from renowned percussionist Luis Conte.
Following her successful performances, her song "Me Faltas Tú"[10] gained recognition from Putumayo Music, being featured in nine of their playlists and selected as the opening track for their special album World Love Songs[11] which includes only ten tracks from around the world. Released on Valentine's Day, the album's timing perfectly complements the romantic and heartfelt nature of the song. Me Faltas Tú"[12] has accumulated 160,000 streams, showcasing its broad appeal.
Clara was invited to sing smooth jazz for Mañana Latina at a Pre-Oscars ceremony, where she performed "Sabor a Mí" on international TV. She later sang her own song "Me Faltas Tú" on national TV. Following this, she was invited back to perform "Lost in Memory."[13]
A year into her career, Clara's achievements significantly enhanced her portfolio and caught the attention of key figures, including the Head of Cultural Events at the Mexican Consulate. As a result, she was hired to perform velvet jazz at a Hollywood film event hosted by the Mexican Ambassador of Los Angeles.
She has just released her first indie/folk song titled "I'll Be Here."[14]to the public, and amidst all this, she continues to both work and study.
