For the 2024 Ballon d'Or votes for the Men's Player of the Year were cast by an international jury panel, comprising one journalist from each of the top 100 countries in the FIFA Men's World Ranking.[2]

Voting criteria

Journalists were tasked with voting based on three key criteria.[3]

  • 1) Individual performances, decisive and impressive character
  • 2) Team performances and achievements
  • 3) Class and fair play

Each journalist ranked their top 10 players, awarding points as follows:[4]

  • 15 points awarded to the best player
  • 12 points awarded to the 2nd best player
  • 10 points awarded to the 3rd best player
  • 8 points awarded to the 4th best player
  • 7 points awarded to the 5th best player
  • 1-5 points awarded to the 6th-10th best player
