The iPhone 20 is a device that is going to be designed, developed, manufactured, and marketed by Apple.[1] It will be announced in 2027 and it will use a curved design.[2][3][4][5] Apple will skip the IPhone 19, going straight to 20 for the IPhone's 20th Anniversary.[6][7][8]
History
[edit]Development
[edit]The technology behind the 20th Anniversary iPhone was in development for a few years, starting in 2025, with multiple reports suggesting that the device would feature a wraparound display that curves around all of the edges,[1] to Apple skiping the name iPhone 19, going straight to 20,[6] to a radical curved design, showing a mock-up image for the convex display glass curving down at the edges.[9] Apple has evaluated Samsung's under-panel camera (UPC) technology as an alternative to the under-display camera (UDC),[9] and suggested that the iPhone 20 would ship with a Dynamic Island or a punch-hole cutout, which would be paired with Samsung's "Polar ID" face authentication system.[9]
Multiple rumors for the iPhone 20 were known, revealing the new design.[10][11][12] Samsung was also reported to be the supplier for the OLED Display for the iPhone 20.[10][11][12] It was also rumored that Apple was going to replace lithium-ion batteries with silicon-anode batteries, which would result in exceptionally high runtimes,[10][11][12] and renders showing that there’s only a dual-camera configuration at the back.[10][11][12] The iPhone 20 would feature solid-state buttons,[13] and a 6,000mAh battery with reverse wireless charging capabilities.[13]
Rumors
[edit]Rumors of a drastic iPhone redesign began circulating as early as 2026.[14][15] There were rumors that the iPhone 20 would be available in two sizes, which suggests that the iPhone 20 could be available in 6.3 and 6.9-inch sizes, along with a 2-nanometer A21 chip.[14][15] The 20th Anniversary iPhone would be code-named V73 and V74 as the successor to the iPhone 18 Pro.[16][15]
In July 2026, testing of a 7-Inch (6.96-inch) display was reported, suggesting that Apple is planning a 20th anniversary iPhone.[17][18]
In August 2026, Barron's reported that Apple would cancel the iPhone 20 redesign due to poor production yields, and that Apple stock was downgraded.[19][20] Mackenzie Tatananni explained the possible cancellation of Apple’s all-glass iPhone.[19][20] However, it was later refuted when Apple’s all-glass iPhone was still on track for a 2027 launch despite the possible cancellation.[21][22]
