Johan Hörlén (born 24 September 1967) is a Swedish jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, flautist, and composer. He currently performs as lead alto saxophonist with the WDR Big Band, in Cologne, Germany.
Life and Career

Hörlén was born in Växjö, Sweden on 24 September 1967.[1] At the age of eight, he began playing the clarinet. and at age eleven, he took up alto saxophone. He studied classical and jazz saxophone at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm from 1986 to 1990.
He has been a member of the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra since 1988 and its first alto since 1995. He has also worked with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and the Norrbotten Big Band. Since 2011 he has been a soloist with the WDR Big Band in Cologne. With this orchestra and his own bands he has toured North and Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and most of Europe. He has released two albums under his own name on the record label Dragon Records, Dance of Resistance and Chills. He has participated as a guest or sideman in almost 100 productions, for example with Joakim Milder, Stina Nordenstam, Anders Widmark, Peter Asplund, Lennart Åberg, and Peter Erskine.
Hörlén taught at the Music Academy in Stockholm.
He is the lead alto saxophonist of Köln's WDR Big Band.[2]
