Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

Lederer is a Swiss luxury watch brand founded by a master of escapements Bernhard Lederer. The brand is known for its focus on horological innovation, particularly in the development of mechanical watches with unique escapements and movements, which are designed and manufactured in-house.
History
editBernhard Lederer, born in 1958 near Stuttgart, Germany, embarked on his horological journey in 1976 with an apprenticeship at the watch museum in Wuppertal, Germany. He later attended the master school in Pforzheim, qualifying as a Master Watchmaker in 1984. Lederer founded his atelier, Uhrenmanufaktur Lederer, specializing in the restoration of vintage watches and clocks and the creation of original timepieces...[1]
In 1985, Bernhard Lederer became one of the first members of the Horological Academy of Independent Watchmakers (A.H.C.I.)[2], joining the ranks of watchmakers such as George Daniels[3]
Innovation and achievements
editOne of Lederer’s early work, a table clock created in 1986, featured a gravity escapement, a 1000-year calendar, and a moon phase display requiring correction only once every 800 years.[4] This clock was pivotal in Lederer’s recognition as a Master Watchmaker. Several developments of escapements followed.[5]
In 2020, Lederer introduced the Central Impulse Chronometer (CIC), a wristwatch featuring an independent double-wheel escapement. Originally developed by George Daniels, the escapement was refined and miniaturized by Lederer for use in the CIC. This escapement is noted for its dual impulse, self-starting capability, and frictionless, direct impulse system. The design includes several innovations, such as optimized geometry to eliminate recoil and the use of lightweight materials like titanium to reduce inertia. The watch also incorporates a pair of remontoirs, ensuring consistent power transmission to the escape wheels and enhancing the accuracy of timekeeping.[6]
Bernhard Lederer was awarded the Innovation Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2021.[7]
Bernhard Lederer's innovations:
- Millennial Calendar: Calendar system that surpasses traditional perpetual calendars by accounting for leap years and century adjustments, with corrections needed only after 3200 years.[8]
- Moon Phase Accuracy: Utilizing advanced mathematical and astronomical calculations, Lederer developed a moon phase mechanism with high accuracy, predicting eclipses and requiring minimal corrections.[9]
- BLU Majesty Tourbillon MT3: Introduced in 2006, this watch features a triple-axis tourbillon.[10]
- Gagarin Tourbillon: Released in 2011 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's first manned spaceflight, this watch features a tourbillon that orbits the dial in 108 minutes, the same duration as Gagarin’s space journey.[11]
- 100,000 Gauss Amagnetic Watch: In 2017, Lederer developed the first wristwatch to withstand magnetic fields up to 100,000 Gauss.[12]
- Central Impulse Chronometer (CIC): A 2020 wristwatch featuring an independent double-wheel escapement with remontoirs, awarded the Innovation Prize at the 2021 GPHG.[13]
