It ceased broadcasting in Benelux on 1 October 2017,[1] but came back on 1 February 2021 by replacing MTV Brand New.

Though the network started as exclusive to mainland of Europe, its broadcast range has expanded over time as successor companies Viacom and ViacomCBS wound down domestic versions of MTV Hits and other MTV networks due to budgetary concerns and the rise of streaming, including MTV Brand New in the Benelux region (1 February 2021) and Germany (6 January 2021), and local versions of MTV Hits in Latin America (5 August 2020), Australia (1 August 2023) and the UK & Ireland (1 August 2024). MTV's operations in Russia were wound down on 1 July 2021, including its domestic version of MTV Hits.[2]

Some versions of the network continue to feature local insertions for MTV EMA live broadcast (UK & Ireland only), domestic advertising and teleshopping slots.
