Proper Taste is a record label based out of the United States focusing mostly on soulful dance music. It divides operations between Detroit - where it currently record press its music, and Atlanta - where A&R and distribution take place. Emerging with the sole[1] purpose of producing audio recordings on wax, or vinyl as it's often referred to. Proper Taste releases cannot be found in streaming digital platforms.

History

edit

From conception in 2016, Proper Taste began as a dinner party in collaboration with Heineken. It consisted in the gathering of community leaders in the service industry with the intent of engaging with Heineken products (infused in food and cocktail menu items) and the exchange of ideas over a bed of vinyl records played by Elio Stereo.

It went on to become a monthly event in Atlanta, leaving behind the food tasting experience by concentrating in its musical aspect. Proper Taste visited New York City for the first time in December 13, 2019 for a show at Her Name Was Carmen in the SoHo District. By then, a record deal was signed between the soon to become record label and Trinidadian Deep[2]. In February 18, 2020 Proper Taste released PT001 - its first vinyl record named Caribbean Roots EP[3]. Formalizing the foundation of an official record label in the United States. Melchior Sultana[4] was signed for PT002, known in stores as When Time Is Still EP[5]. Released in North America and Europe on April 2, 2021.
