Career
editRakesh Sethulingam sought to popularise rap when it was under-represented in Tamil music. Inspired by 'Pettai Rap', he composed a song in 2009, performed it at IIT Saarang, and won first prize. Since then, he has been known as 'Rap Rakesh', first to friends and then to Facebook fans.[1] In 2014, he released the song 'Munne Vaada' which is centered around female empowerment.[2] In 2016, Rakesh launched a further music video focusing on this subject matter entitled '12 AM (Women Empowerment)'. The video is an ode to a woman who was robbed and brutally killed by kidnappers. It was released by Vijay Sethupathi.[3][4]
