The St. Louis Blues Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and fostering blues music in and from St. Louis, Missouri. Since its establishment in 1984, it has provided blues artists the opportunity for public performance all for the educational and artistic benefit of the general public.[1] It was founded by Tommy Bankhead, Rudy "Silvercloud" Coleman, Bennie Smith, John May, Ron Edwards, Frank Babcock, and Sam Valenti.[2]
Outreach
editSince 1989, the society has published its bimonthly newsletter, "Bluesletters."[3] It was also the past host of the Blues & Heritage Festival[4] until the event was rebranded as the Big Muddy Blues Festival organized by Blues Heritage Festival, Inc. [5] Currently, the society oversees the St. Louis Blues Archive Project to interview and preserve stories from blues musicians of the area. [6]
List of Recordings
editThe society has released five compilation albums featuring artists corresponding with the year.[7] Such compilation albums aim to bring national attention to local musicians in the region's blues scene. [8]
