Notability issue
editHello, Brian Slocum is a Distinguished Professor at University of the Pacific, which is prominent enough of an academic post for him to qualify prima facie as a notable academic.
In addition, he is an author of multiple notable books and so also meets the notability threshold on that basis.
I am removing the notability tag for the above reasons. Jack4576 (talk) 08:31, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
- I have added additional content to address the citations issue, as well as the notability issue. Have removed the tags after addressing those issues. Jack4576 (talk) 03:34, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
RfC, Draftspace
editShould this article have been moved to draftspace? Jack4576 (talk) 16:33, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: While in-depth coverage of this academic is not substantial; multiple independent sources for this subject exist. Per WP:BASIC, "multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability". In my opinion, this threshold is met here. The sources demonstrate that Brian Slocum is an important professor in his academic field, which is linguistics and law. In particular, his commentary on corpus linguistics and the law, and is writing on 'ordinary meaning' brings him to Wikipedia-level notability for an academic.
- Onel5969 evidently doesn't think so but I'd like to get a third-party opinion. Jack4576 (talk) 16:38, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- per WP:DRAFTOBJECT, you should move this page back to mainspace and see if someone wishes to send this article to AFD. An RFC isn't meant to replace formal deletion discussions. Iffy★Chat -- 18:14, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Apologies, I wasn’t aware. I’ll do that and close this RfC. Jack4576 (talk) 19:05, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Please don't hold RfCs on draft talk pages, and don't start RfCs without exhausting WP:RFCBEFORE. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:19, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

This article was not created for undisclosed payments
editThis article was not created in return for undisclosed payments. I am a writer based in Australia, I have no connection to the subject, least of all a financial one. Please remove the UDP tag. User:Twinkle1990 Jack4576 (talk) 10:35, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Jack4576 How do you know him then? Afterall, he is not a celebrity professor. Twinkle1990 (talk) 11:04, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- I encountered his scholarship and relied on it for multiple essays while I was at law school. He is an internationally renowned scholar regarding the linguistics of statutory interpretation.
- Its really not a good idea to accuse another editor of UDP just because a subject they happen to write about isn't a 'celebrity', if that's the basis of your tag. Thank you for replying. Jack4576 (talk) 12:17, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
