My WP:ES got cut so I am rewriting it here for posterity. cc: User:Tyyyyypo:
Wikipedia:Obscure does not mean not notable. Many other sources exist in CS journals, type design journals, computer typography publications, Unicode historical archives, etc. These are often not all digitized, all Opstad did wrong was haev his career mostlly pre-internet. his breakthroughs are very influential, I therefore promote the article despite refusals by other editors (most recently User:Kaleeb18 but also User:Devonian Wombat, User:Curb Safe Charmer, User:Rusalkii).
I don't blame you all…the article was overly congratulatory (I cut WP:PEACOCKery like he ended up with over 50 years of professional experience; Most of the time he worked behind the scenes, yet he was often asked for advice) and therefore an actual expert on the subject matter was needed to know if this was just bravado or non-neutral statements about someone who is still notable regardless of a newbie making their article. If users continue to want this article deleted it'd be WP:AfD, though I would suggest you also have to nominate most of Category:People involved with Unicode if this article is nominated for AfD. @Psiĥedelisto: my decline was of an early draft and was for NPOV rather than notability, and I stand by that. As regards the article in its current state: Wikipedia shouldn't be the first to write in depth about someone's life, based on fragments and mere mentions elsewhere. However, I think it can be argued that Opstad meets WP:ANYBIO. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 04:52, 1 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Curb Safe Charmer: I'd agree with the WP:ANYBIO argument, but I think the depth you're seeking may very well exist. I know of several exhaustive (some may say exhausting) histories of Unicode which are for one reason or another difficult to access, due to being in low circulation journals, or trade publications, etc. Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please alwaysping!04:59, 1 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
