If this draft were moved to article space, would it probably survive a listing at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion? I am not an expert at AfD, but what I will say is that your content would very likely survive, and your article would be more likely than not to survive. This is a topic which will continue to grow as we learn more, and you have already demonstrated to me that it meets WP:N and WP:V. The worst case scenario I can see would be that people feel this article should be merged with Mitochondrion. I personally do not think so, as that article is rather long as it is, and I think that your article stands fine by itself. However, it contains no mention (that I saw) of the topics covered in your article, and Horizontal gene transfer mentions mitochondria but does not link here. I think that editing those pages to include a little bit of the information you have here, and linking back here, might be in order. I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I agree with Prometheus720. This makes sense a separate article. It's a sufficiently notable topic, and sufficiently well sourced. It works well as a standalone article so long as there's a couple of sentences in the Mitochondria article to summarise it and link here. Additional possible improvements (ping Nikatomka):

• a diagram would be v useful (especially mechanisms)
• more wikilinks to other articles
• any information on prevalence or occurrence frequency in vivo
