General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited:
  • Interesting:   - I’m concerned the hook may not be legible to many readers; I am reasonably interested in related topics and still had not heard of Millicent Fawcett, and the entry does not explain.
QPQ: Done.

Overall:   Thank you for nominating this interesting and worthy entry! If I could make one general recommendation for making this important topic more accessible to the non-specialist reader, I think regardless of the hook, the entry could benefit from a few words explaining who Fawcett was, and likewise to explain what the Bangor dispute was (currently it’s a bit mysterious). As to the hook, I wonder if it would be more interesting to say something like:

Tell me what you think. Innisfree987 (talk) 05:34, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Name?

Myf... or Myv... ? Rhŷs or Rhys?

At present the article title uses Rhys, but she is referred to as Rhŷs. Was this because the article was accidentally created at the simplified spelling? Wikipedia article titles can include diacriticals. If she is going to get the exposure of being a DYK, there should be more consistency on this: should the article be moved, or will that mess up the DYK nomination as showing instability or confusing the templates? As to "f" or "v" ... sources seem to differ, and our article is inconsistent ("f" in "Personal life"). PamD 23:06, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Manxshearwater what do you think? My impression is that she was born as Myfanwy Rhŷs in Rhyl and died as Myvanwy Rhys in Oxford, so Myvanwy Rhys is a reasonable title. Although sources differ, we should be consistent. Her archive is at https://archives.library.wales/index.php/myvanwy-rhys.
For DYK we can move the article if necessary and change the link for the front page, but the nomination page should not be moved. TSventon (talk) 00:25, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@PamD @TSventon Apologies for the mix up here! She was born Myfanwy Rhŷs so there should be a diacritical there but not sure what happened so I think that should be changed. I submitted it for AfC and it might have been removed by someone else in the process of creation. Both Myfanwy and Myvanwy were used for her across her life and in multiple sources I came across when writing the page. The given name is generally spelled as Myfanwy (pronounced as "Myvanwy"). Perhaps it might be a better idea to spell it Myfanwy for general consistency and to add Myvanwy as an alternative name on there? I am happy with either. The archive page is interesting: definitely spells her as Rhys without the accent, while referring to her father with accent, but uses both "f" and "v"! We just need to be consistent, and mention both forms of each, and have redirects from the 3 other versions. PamD 12:01, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
