Once operated by the Arctic Umiaq Line, these small community transport ships like the ALEQA ITTUK, have been transferred to Diskoline. Disko Line (alternate spelling) operates the community passenger transportation service on the western side of Greenland using a combination of fiberglass fast boats and older steel-hulled boats like the ALEQA ITTUK that are slower (9-to-10 knots) but can better withstand the rough seas and ice that can arise in seas off West Greenland. In smooth seas with little ice, fast fiberglass boats like the AMAROQ have speeds up to 29 knots.
