Examination of the items, familiarity with period papers, bindings and typical condition issues, and comparison with bibliographic descriptions are the ways a specialist determines if the book is authentic and similar comparisons regarding period inks and handwriting apply to inscriptions.
During the public exhibition preceding the auction, many interested and knowledgeable people will undoubtedly closely examine the items, and further information may come to bear on the question of authenticity.
