Description2016 Proton Persona (BH) body structure (28635374704).jpg
Proton's new 'affordable safety' USP first started in 2013, but in a few short years, their efforts have paid off handsomely. Safety has become one of their strongest playing cards now... and to think, just a few years back, many Proton cars didn't even come with a driver's airbag or ABS !
Even now in 2016, few car models have electronic stability control (ESC) as standard in Malaysia, and if so, they're usually limited to larger models or more premium brands. In other words, safety is a luxury in Malaysia, not a right (as currently observed in Western Europe, Japan, America, Canada and Australia). Proton has been trying their best to change this though, and unlike their 'nemesis' Perodua (who could care less about safety, frankly speaking), Proton has been pushing for more and more safety features in their models.
The new BH Persona has ESC as standard, and eight super-strong hot pressed (HPF) components, just like the Iriz. Unfortunately, airbag count in the base and mid range models stand at just two, but the range topping model gets six. But the fact that ESC comes standard is already a major leap forward, as many of its competitors (City, Vios, Almera etc.) do not get standardised ESC. Heck, even the base model Camry doesn't have ESC, nor any side or curtain airbags. Such is the context here.
