English: Timor-Leste’s Ambassador presents the Letters of Credence to the Governor-General of New Zealand

H.E. Mr. Lisualdo Gaspar, Ambassador of Timor-Leste presented the Letters of Credence to Her Excellecy Right Honourable Dame Pasty Reddy, GNZM, QSO, Governor General of New Zealand in a solemn ceremony held in the Government House, Wellington, New Zealand on 12 November 2019.

In the speech during the ceremony, Ambassador Lisualdo Gaspar conveyed the warm greetings from His Excellency President Dr. Francisco Guterres Lú Olo to the Governor General, the Government and the people of New Zealand and best wishes for the prosperity of New Zealand and the long lasting friendship between the two countries.

Timorese Ambassador also acknowledged with gratitude for the continued support provided by New Zealand to Timor-Leste since 1999 until today. He also affirmed the commitment of the Ambassador to work with the Government of New Zealand to further improve and enhance the very friendly and close relationship between Timor-Leste and New Zealand.

Similarly, in her speech, Her Excellency Governor-General of New Zealand conveyed the best wishes and thanks to His Excellency President Lú Olo and restated the commitment of New Zealand to continue assist the development of Timor-Leste.

The Governor General of New Zealand expressed the admiration for the strength, courage and tenacity of Timorese leaders and people during the long struggle for independence, as well as the sacrifices so many Timorese made for cause of independence. Furthermore, H.E. Dame Pasty Reddy noted with pleasure the remarkable achievement of Timor-Leste in terms of the stability, security and vibrant democracy in such a short time.

During the presentation of the Letters of the Credence, Ambassador Lisualdo Gaspar was accompanied by his spouse Judith Vital Soares and First Secretary of the Embassy Mr. Armindo Simões. He is the second resident Ambassador of Timor-Leste to New Zealand after Ambassador Cristiano Costa.
