A detachment of the battery, under Lieut. R. H. Bellamy, served one 6-pounder gun in this position, Railroad Redoubt, from May 18 to a little before 10 o'clock the forenoon of May 22, 1863, when its ammunition was exploded by the fire of the Union batteries. Lieut. R. H Bellamy and three enlisted men of the detachment were severely wounded by the explosion the gun was not afterwards served in this redoubt during the defense.
