English: THE HOUSE WAS BUILT IN 1853 BY THE SCHERMERHORN FAMILY AND NAMED FOR A 2 CENTURY OAK TREE WHICH STOOD ON THE PROPERTY. AFTER MRS. SCHERMERHORN DIED IT WAS PURCHASED IN 1857 BY AUGUSTUS CRANE WHO REMODELLED THE HOUSE INTO AN ITALIAN VILLA. IT NOW BELONGS TO THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
THIS HOUSE IS LISTED ON THE NR AND THERE IS A PICTURE THERE BUT IT IS ALSO LISTED IN THE LIST OF NEW JERSEY MUSEUMS AND THERE IS NO PICTURE IN THAT LIST. THIS PICTURE COULD BE USED THERE
