novena is an ancient Christian devotional worship practice, it was popular through mid 20th century in much of Europe. The devotee would pray before a statue, image or icon seeking favors or divine intervention in a personal problem such as illness, sick loved one or other difficulties. Novena, from Latin for nine, was usually a ritual praying over nine days or nine weeks.
