Philanthropy in a period of decline
According to Sanskrit and Persian inscriptions in this stepwel. it was built in V.S. 1779/ A.H. 1135 (A.D. 1723) by Raghunathdas.
Sparsely ornamented. it is notable for its L-Shaped plan and the bracing arches which have different shapes at the two storeys and in the kuta (pavilion tower) before the well shaft.
Raghunathdas was diwan to Haidar Quli Khan. governor of Gujarat during the declining period of Mughal rule.
