Description
In der "Ausgießung des Heiligen Geistes" stellte van Dyck das Pfingstwunder dar, das in der Apostelgeschichte des Neuen Testaments (2, 1-4) geschildert wird: Zu Pfingsten versammelten sich die Apostel und wurden vom heiligen Geist erfüllt, so dass sie anfingen, in anderen Sprachen zu predigen. Der dunkle Raum wird im Gemälde von oben nur durch das göttliche Licht erhellt, die Taube des Heiligen Geistes schwebt über den ergriffenen Aposteln. Über ihren Köpfen haben sich kleine Flammen niedergesetzt, als Zeichen der Aufnahme des heiligen Geistes. Das Gemälde wird in der Bildergalerie von Sanssouci gezeigt.

Object history ursprünglich Teil einer Serie von drei Gemälden, die spätestens 1660 in der Abtei ter Duinen in Brügge hingen. 1755 wurden sie gemeinsam für König Friedrich II. von Preußen in Brügge für 20.000 florins erworben und seit 1763 im mittleren Kuppelsaal (Tribuna) der Bildergalerie von Sanssouci präsentiert. Sie gehörten seit damals zu den Spitzenwerken der Galerie. Die beiden anderen dazugehörigen Bilder - die "Dornenkrönung" und die "Hl. Johannes der Täufer und Hl. Johannes der Evangelist" ("Die beiden Johannes") von van Dyck gehören seit 1945 zu den Kriegsverlusten der SMB Gemäldegalerie PK, Berlin.
