The factual accuracy of this map or the file name is disputed.
Reason: This is a joke. What did the Mongols do at the Arctic Sea and in Taimyr and Camchatka? Did they ship cheap Chinese goods through the Northeast Passage? Or did they just plant border stones and customs houses at the Northern shores, to prevent the invasions of crabs and polar bears? This 'scientific' paper cites Wikipedia (!) and draws its arbitrary borders on top of a GoogleMap so far to the north, for the sole purpose of claiming that the Mongol Empire was the largest (in territory) that the world has ever seen. That is even alluded to on the first page. The last page says "there is not enough evidence" for any specific northern border, and to include all of Siberia is "facetious" ... i.e. yes it's a joke. On historically-minded maps, it makes sense to draw an open border to the north, with a fading-away color gradient. That is all. --Enyavar (talk) 11:59, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
