Description
English: An inscription from the Apollo Gate, kept at Prince of Wales Museum. Apollo Gate was among the three gates of the English Fort of Bombay. It was removed from the gate in 1857. The inscription in Latin reads-

"H.O.I. HON. CAROLE BOONE ARM. INSULAE BOMBAIA & C. GUBERNATORE ILLUSTRISSIMO. IUN. ULT. ANNO DOMINI. MDCCXVI." When translated, it reads-

"H.O.I. HON. CAROL BOONE ARM. TO THE ILLUSTRIOUS GOVERNOR OF THE ISLANDS OF BOMBAY & C. JUN. ult. THE YEAR OF THE LORD 1716"
