Fair use rationale: This book cover complements a passage in the Guy Davenport Wikipedia article that discusses Davenport's attempt in his early fictions to create texts in which words and images are equally important to the effect he wishes to achieve.
The cover quotes art that Davenport provided as part of the texts that appear APPLES AND PEARS. While the cover does indeed show clearly the nature and quality of Davenport's crow quill and ink drawings, it also demonstrates the sort of use to which the book designer put them, to Davenport's considerable consternation (described by Davenport in his Introduction to 50 DRAWINGS, now quoted in the article).
Source of image: Shown is the dust cover of the first and only edition of this book, published in 1984 by North Point Press. The cross hatch drawings are by the author, Guy Davenport; the design is by David Bullen. North Point is no longer in business. SocJan 09:32, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
