Ari Rath wurde 1925 in Wien geboren, musste noch als Kind aus Österreich fliehen und ist einer der bedeutendsten israelischen Journalisten. Rath studierte Zeitgeschichte und Volkswirtschaft. 1957 wurde er Redakteur der „Jerusalem Post“, einer bis heute bestehenden englischsprachigen israelischen Zeitung. Er gehörte mit Shimon Peres und Yitzhak Rabin zum engen Kreis um David Ben Gurion. 1975 wurde er Chefredakteur, 1979 Herausgeber der „Jerusalem Post“.
