Summary

Description
English: Barclays Bank and Empire House, Dewsbury. - The Barclays Bank building was built for the West Riding Union Bank in the 1870s. It originally had stone balustrades and balconies under the second-floor windows, but these were removed during a 1960s refurbishment. There is a series of stone heads over the ground-floor windows and a ram's head (for the wool trade) over the door. Empire House is built on the site of the Empire Theatre, which opened in 1909 and closed in the 1950s. That was on the site of the Manor House, an 18C rebuilding of a medieval house.
