DescriptionBulgaria Bulgaria-0812 - Roman Odeon (7432938030).jpg
English: Time to leave Plovdiv and head for the city of Veliko Tarnovo.
I found this while walking around, some of the seats were wooden and falling apart. Apparently it was used for entertainment at one time but has fallen into disrepair.
This Roman Odeon was built in the 2nd - 5th centuries AD and is the second (and smaller) antique theatre of Philipopolis with 350 seats. It was initially built as a bulevterion (edifice of the city council) and was later reconstructed as a theatre.
The Odeon was attached to the forum complex. The forum was built in the end of the 1st century AD, when Philipopolis obtained a new city planning scheme and a center (forum) according to a Roman model. It covers an area of 11 hectares and used to be covered with shops of the similar sizes on three of its sides and public buildings on the north side.
