Notes Andrew Cassidy arrived in San Diego in 1853. He was stationed here in charge of meteorological and tide observations for seventeen years. During this period he published the Miscellaneous Notes on the Tide Gauge. In his Annual Report to the Secretary of the Treasury, he described at great length the notice of earthquake waves on the west coast of America, on December 23 and 25, 1854. Later he read a paper on the subject to a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
