English: Canal Milestone, Macclesfield Canal, Cheshire The Macclesfield Canal has the strangest (most sinister looking?) mileposts of any canal.These gravestone look-a-likes were removed during the second world war for fear of helping possible invading forces. The Macclesfield Canal Society restored and replaced them. This one indicates "From Marple 16 miles".
