DescriptionCanbelego, NSW - Honour roll, probably from Methodist Church (Great Cobar Museum).jpg
English: Canbelego, NSW - Honour roll, probably from Methodist Church (Great Cobar Museum).
The caption for this roll of honour, in the Great Cobar Museum reads, "The original siting of this Great War roll is uncertain. Research reveals the names to be former residents of Canbelego to Cobar's east. Reverend William Smart, at the top of the list, was a Methodist minister. Enlisting as an ordinary soldier, he was invalided back to Australia with severe shellshock and returned to Canbelego. Other soldiers on the list were mostly Methodists. After the war, the steep fall in population led to the dismantling of Methodist churches at Wrightville and Canbelego, where this roll probably hung. It was forgotten and nearly lost."
