Summary

Description Part of an inadvertently double-exposed slide photograph taken at the opening of the Church Army Chapel, Blackheath, London, England, 6 May 1965. It is a view from the old quadrangle (now built on) to the north elevation of the chapel lobby. One of Princess Alexandra's ladies in waiting stands precariously on an unfinished step, while the gold-embroidered chasuble of Archbishop Michael Ramsay is just visible to her right. This would be just before or just after the archbishop had consecrated the chapel and held the dedication service. During the consecration he led a procession around the outside of the chapel, anointing its four corners. There was a set of prints of him doing this, with chasuble, mitre and crook, but the prints are now lost, leaving only this scrap of a picture. From the archives of the architect E.T. Spashett.
