Summary

Description View of north-east and east elevations from above. showing curve of hyperbolic paraboloid roof. Church Army Chapel, Blackheath, London, England. Built 1965. The row of dark blue engineering bricks between the top of the east wall and the roof can just be seen. These are original, as they appear in a photograph of the chapel being built in 1965. That photo appeared in a local newspaper at that time, and is held by Greenwich Heritage Centre. The roof has been re-covered with strips which follow the curves, but the roof structure is a net of three layers of straight timbers, giving rigidity. (Photographed through glass)
