Summary

Description
Die regiseurs was Joseph Albrecht en A.A. Pienaar.
English: Reenactment of the vow taken by Cilliers, some 460 voortrekkers and others present on 9 Dec. 1838 at the Wasbank River, and confirmed every evening up to the 15th when the enemy was in view. In 1938 the South African Railways and Harbours public relations department produced Die bou van 'n nasie / They built a nation, which included Myles Bourke as Piet Retief and actors of the "Volksteater-toneelgroep". The directors were Joseph Albrecht and A.A. Pienaar.
Cilliers would recall in his memoirs: "I conceded in my weakness to the wish of all the officials, also was I aware that the majority of burghers were in favour of it. ... on a canon carriage [was the vow delivered] ... in a simple way, with as much dignity as the Lord enabled me to do."
