---|---|
Author or copyright owner |
Author of excerpted article is Clare Fischer; author of photo is William Claxton. The author of this image of the article is a fellow Wikipedia editor. |
Source (WP:NFCC#4) | Original publication: Downbeat Magazine Immediate source: Aforementioned fellow Wikipedia editor emailed me the scan |
Date of publication | Article was itself published in November 1962 |
Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | Clare Fischer |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of his/her biographical article |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
I'm sure many alternatives COULD be found; I'm well acquainted w/ Fischer's widow and son; we've already coordinated getting Clare's lyrics published on Wikipedia and they have each scanned and sent me many images at different times. That being said, I don't believe those alternatives would convey as much information. On the one hand, this image depicts Fischer as he appeared when he was first coming into his own as a jazz artist, having finally gotten full credit for a couple of his arranging gigs, and having his own debut LP (awarded 5 stars by Down Beat) under his belt. At the same time, the context of the photo, an article by Fischer re the fine points of Bossa Nova, and the excerpt contained thereof, illustrate both Fischer's thorough integration of Brazilian music, which, along with his familiarity w/ a variety of Latin American musics, would rapidly become one of his lasting trademarks, and his penchant for pedagogy. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | As previously mentioned, this is a tiny excerpt of a copyrighted work; moreover, there is no other Wikipedia article, current or future, which would conceivably, utilize this image. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
The only owners whose commercial opportunities could conceivably be affected in any way by this image's presence on Wikipedia would be the publishers of Downbeat (assuming they do, for price, make 50-plus-year-old back Issues available) or owners of this particular issue who wish to sell their copies online. The only possible effect this usage could have on those opportunities is positive, by both creating awareness of the product's existence while only disclosing a tantalizing glimpse of said product. |
Other information | The subject of the photograph has been deceased since: 2012 |
