Summary

Description A rainbow shines over TriMet's Coliseum Transit Center (later renamed Rose Quarter Transit Center) on January 13, 1991, the first day of service through a newly built off-street section - a bus-only roadway (for southbound buses only) with a long passenger shelter. Bus 551 (a 1989 Flxible Metro on route 1-Greeley) is pulling away from the stop, and bus 974 (a 1982 GM RTS on route 4-Fessenden) is pulling up to the stop. In the lefthand background is the Memorial Coliseum, the namesake of the transit center and adjacent MAX station. The light green industrial building in the center background was demolished about two years later and replaced by the Rose Garden Arena (now Moda Center). Only three years after this photo, in January 1994, this roadway and bus stop were closed and demolished, as part of a reconfiguration of several streets/intersections in connection with the construction of the new arena. The brick building at right, which is for TriMet bus drivers and fare inspectors, was retained and continues in use today.
