Summary

Description
English: A painting by Icelandic marine biologist, dr. Bjarni Sæmundsson (1867–1940) of the steam trawler Coot. The trawler was built by W. Hamilton & Co. in Glasgow in 1892. It was purchased by a group of Icelanders from Silver City Steam Trawling Co. in Aberdeen in 1905. It displaced 157 tons, had a 225hp steam engine and was geared for bottom trawling. It had a very successful career in Iceland. Dr. Bjarni Sæmundsson did research on board this ship during the summer of 1906. In December 1908 the ship ran aground near its home harbor of Hafnarfjörður and was wrecked. All of the crew were saved.
