Deutsch: Der 1687 als Niederlassung französischer Flüchtlinge (Hugenotten) entstandene Ort, der 1699 nach seinem Gründer, dem Landgrafen Friedrich II. von Hessen-Homburg, benannt wurde, hat am 20. April 1771 Stadtrechte erhalten. Ein Besuch des russischen Großfürsten Nikolaus Paulowitsch mit seiner Gemahlin Alexandra Feodorowna, geb. Prinzessin von Preußen, am hessen-homburgischen Hofe gab den Anlass, dass der Stadt durch Urkunde des Landgrafen vom 9. Juni 1821 das Stadtwappen verliehen wurde. In der Wahl des Wappens lag zugleich eine Huldigung für die Großfürstin; denn die Anzahl der Rosen wurde nach den Buchstaben ihres Namens Alexandra bestimmt. Am 14. Januar 1828 verlieh der Landgraf der Gemeinde auch ein Siegel, in dem das Wappen enthalten ist.
English: The town, which was established in 1687 as a settlement for French refugees (Huguenots) and was named in 1699 after its founder, Landgrave Frederick II of Hesse-Homburg, received city rights on April 20, 1771. A visit by the Russian Grand Duke Nicholas Pavlovich with his wife Alexandra Feodorovna, née Princess of Prussia, to the Hesse-Homburg court gave rise to the city being granted the city coat of arms by deed of the landgrave dated June 9, 1821. The choice of coat of arms was also a tribute to the grand duchess; because the number of roses was determined by the letters of her name Alexandra. On January 14, 1828, the landgrave also granted the community a seal containing the coat of arms. |
