Object history Wassertrüdingen besitzt seit 1387 Stadtrechte. Das Wappenbild ist in dem Abdruck eines Siegels von 1387 überliefert. Die Truhen stehen redend für den Ortsnamen, der sich von dem Personennamen Truhtmund ableitet. In den Siegeln vom 16. Jahrhundert bis 1937 steht im Wappen nur eine rote Truhe in Silber. Das führte zur Fehldeutung als Bank. Im Schrifttum des 19. Jahrhunderts wird daraus ein Baumklotz auf vier Füßen oder eine Pfanne. 1938 verlieh der Reichsstatthalter in Bayern das Wappen in der Darstellung von 1287. Wassertrüdingen war 1371 in Besitz der Burggrafen von Nürnberg und späteren Markgrafen Brandenburg-Ansbach gekommen. Daran erinnert die Vierung von Silber und Schwarz.
