Image title	The Benson awards dinner is an annual event and was held on 26/09/2019, which celebrates the 80th year of the Station and will formally recognise individuals, both service and civilian, who have performed above the standard expected over the past 12 months. To mark the occasion was a display by the Royal Air Force Falcons followed by a sunset Parade and Flypast. A Drill Display also followed from the Queens Colour Squadron. Each Individual is presented with an award that is characterised by the attributes each serviceman has displayed during the past 12 months. The awards presented were as followed.The Spirit of Benson Award, which is a significant honour given to anIndividual, who has achieved personal and professional excellence through exemplary determination and commitment, characterised by their selfless drive to help others in which hey regularly‘go above and beyond,’ without seeking recognition. This award will only be presented should an appropriate candidate be nominated.Station Commander’s Award for Resilience. This award will recognise an individual that has been able to achieve individual or team goals in the face of adversity. An ability to overcome challenges and problems; a positive attitude, which motivates themselves and their team; remaining organised and focussed when issues arise and responding constructively to questions and criticism can demonstrate resilience. The recipient will have displayed these qualities whilst overcoming a significant personal or professional challenge.Loyalty. The award for Loyalty is presented to the individual who has bestDemonstrated the commitment, self-sacrifice, example and courage required to work in or support military life and Benson’s output.Professional Teamwork. The award for Professional Teamwork is presented to the individual or team who has best demonstrated the ability to be an honest and dependable team/player and who has built and maintained good working relationships with every member of our Services, civil servants and contractors in order to deliver Air Power.Community Teamwork. The award for Community Teamwork is presented to the individual or team who has best demonstrated the ability to be an honest and dependable team/player and who has built and maintained good working relationships in the delivery of a service to the local community.Resourcefulness and Innovation. The Award for resourcefulness and innovation is presented to individuals who have demonstrated innate ingenuity and resourcefulness in the finest traditions of the British Military.Professional Excellence. The award for Professional Excellence is presented to the individual that has demonstrated the greatest desire for continuous improvement and who has striven for professional and personal excellence over the past year.The Airman’s Council Award. The Airman’s Council award will be presented to the Junior Rank who has delivered a significant contribution, which has had a positive impact amongst their fellow Airmen. This may have been achieved through additional duties, voluntary work or fund-raising activities. The individual should be regarded as an inspiration to other service personnel on the station.Sports Personality of the Year. This award recognises an individual who has excelled in playing sport. In doing so, the winner will have espoused the RAF’s core values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence and will have been a fine ambassador for RAF Benson.Sports Team of the Year. This category recognises the most successful RAF Benson sports team of the year. This can include competitions and trophies won by the team as a whole or an individual player, events hosted and attended and even community and fundraising activities.Unsung Hero Award. This category recognises a sporting individual who hasOfficiated, played, coached or administered a sport in 2018. This individual will have made a significant impact in their chosen sport or has made a significant contribution to their sport over a period of years. Their success may not be measurable in terms of achievement, but they may have contributed to the success of others or facilitated participation in their chosen sport and as a result they are an ambassador for RAF Benson.The RAF Falcons are a British military parachute display team. They perform aerial displays at venues nationwide and are renowned for their 11-person non-contact canopy stack display routine. The Falcons are based at RAF Brize Norton as part of the No. 1 Parachute Training School. Members do a 3-year tour with the team. The display season is from May to September and during the off season the team spend 3 months in Southern California training for both the Display Season and gaining qualifications appointments after the Falcons.The Queen's Colour Squadron is the unit of the Royal Air Force charged with the safe-keeping of the Queen's Colour for the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom. Since its formation, it has been manned exclusively by officers and men of the RAF Regiment. It also has a secondary operational role as 63 Squadron RAF Regiment, a Regiment Field Squadron (RFS), responsible for the defence of RAF and other assets on the ground from enemy forces. In its ceremonial role, the squadron is responsible for representing the Royal Air Force at various significant occasions. The unit has mounted the guard at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and The Tower of London on several occasions, and has formed guards of honour for various visiting heads of state at Heathrow Airport, near its former base of RAF Uxbridge and its current base of RAF Northolt. The Squadron also handled the coffin of Diana, Princess of Wales on the return of her body to RAF Northolt following her death in Paris in 1997.RAF Benson in South Oxfordshire is a support helicopter main operating base working within the Joint Helicopter Command. RAF Benson is home to two front line Puma HC2 helicopter squadrons, and one Operational Conversion Unit, flying a mix of Puma HC2 and Chinook HC4 helicopters.
